 Lynchburg Area Schools Education is a top priority for the residents of Lynchburg and its surrounding counties. Area schools have received national awards and recognition, including two Exemplary High School designations by the US Department of Education. The region's Partners in Education Program, SAT scores, and percentage of graduates who pursue higher education goals have also been given special merit. In addition to award-winning public school systems, citizens can also consider ten independent schools--both religious and non-sectarian. One of the unique choices is the Virginia School of the Arts, a boarding school for students in grades 7 through 12. The school focuses on standards of excellence in dance and offers college preparatory programs in the arts. For college bound students, the Lynchburg region is home to five colleges!
