1. Ready your materials

The first thing you need to do is gather and prepare all the materials and equipment you’ll need. This way you’ll be able to see and use them whenever you need it. Below are some materials you’ll use:

2. Clean dirt and debris

Use a vacuum cleaner to remove any dirt and debris that has accumulated on the fibers. For those with pets,use a vacuum with a brush attachment to get any pet hairs on it. Make sure you vacuum in circular motions and be gentle so as not to cause damage. Do this on both sides to clean it thoroughly.

3. Prepare the Cleaner

Before you clean the rug,mix your cleaning solution. To do this,combine two cups of water with one tablespoon of rug shampoo or dishwashing liquid in a bucket. Stir it up well so that all ingredients are combined! You can also a mild detergent for this but make sure to use only warm water as hot water can make your rug shrink.

4. Do a patch test

To avoid any damage or discoloring to the rug,make sure you do a test on an inconspicuous spot first. This will help you determine if your solution is safe for use on the material of your rug.

Dip a clean rag into the cleaning mixture and gently rub it onto the small area or corner of the rug. Wait for a few mins and watch out for any changes.  If the colors don’t bleed then it is safe to use.

5. Start Washing the Rug

Once everything is settled,you can now begin washing your rug.  Dip your rag into the cleaning mixture and wash it by using a sponge or soft-bristle brush.  Be gentle as you do this to prevent any damage.

You can also use a carpet cleaner if there are stubborn stains on your rug that won’t go away with the cleaning mixture alone! Just be sure not to overuse it,or else the solution will cause discoloration and fading of the fabric fibers.

Once you’ve done this,let the mixture settle on your rug for at least 5 mins to let the solution lift away stubborn dirt. and then rinse it thoroughly.

6. Rinse the Rug

Finally,after you’ve washed your rug with the cleaning solution,all that’s left is to rinse it. To do this,fill a bucket full of water and then dip in your rag into it. Continue doing this until you see no more soap bubbles. For easier rinsing,you can use a garden hose to spray water onto your rug.

7. Let it Dry

Once you’re done rinsing,make sure to remove the excess water by using a squeegee or a wet-dry vacuum. This will allow your rugs to dry faster. To prevent any mildew from forming on your rugs,make sure they are completely dry before putting them away!

You can also speed up drying time by placing fans near it or hang it in direct sunlight. If necessary,open windows to allow air circulation within the room. Once your rugs are completely dry,you can put them away and enjoy their cleanliness!
